Furniture ecommerce sales: 2021–2024

Recent statistics on the global ecommerce furniture industry show that total sales are expected to hit $31 billion in 2024. This marks a 3.3% annual increase from the previous year.

The ecommerce furniture industry has been growing over the past couple of years. In 2021, total sales amounted to $28 billion and grew by 3.6%, to $29 billion, in 2022, before rising another 3.4% in 2023, to $10 billion. From 2021 to 2024, the industry increased its annual sales by $1 billion every year, rising at an average rate of 3.5% per year.

Furniture ecommerce sales forecast: 2025–2030

Looking ahead, sales from the global ecommerce furniture industry are forecast to continue growing. Analysts predict that total sales will rise by 6.5% in 2025, to $33 billion.

2026 will see a slightly slower annual growth rate of 3%, bringing total ecommerce furniture sales to $34 billion. By 2027, the online furniture market is set to hit $36 billion, adding 5.9% to the previous year’s numbers.

An additional $1 billion in annual sales is expected in 2028, when total sales are expected at $37 billion. This is set to rise to $39 billion in 2029, and by 2030, the ecommerce furniture industry is predicted to surpass the $40 billion mark, to hit $41 billion.

From 2024 to 2030, annual ecommerce furniture sales worldwide are forecast to increase by $10 billion, rising at an average annual growth rate of 4.6%. The biggest increase is expected in 2025, and the smallest is in 2028. 

One aspect to consider when thinking about starting an online furniture store is the model your business should take. Currently, manufacturing is the most popular online business model, with 40.5% of all ecommerce businesses working with it. Dropshipping, with its growing market size, is also relatively popular—the model of choice for 9.3% of ecommerce store owners.
